Research use only
Research peptides in the UK: the legal and research-use position
· 5 min read
If you research peptides in the UK, the phrase research use only is everywhere - and for good reason. This explainer covers what it means, how the regulatory framework applies, and what a compliant supplier looks like.
What research-use-only actually means
Research-use-only reagents are supplied for laboratory and in-vitro study. They are not medicines, not supplements, and have not been evaluated by the MHRA for safety or efficacy in humans or animals. They are not intended for human or veterinary use of any kind.
The regulatory framework
The MHRA regulates medicines marketed for human use. Research reagents supplied strictly for laboratory research, and not marketed with any human-use, therapeutic or dosing claims, sit outside that medicines framework. The responsibility for lawful, appropriate use sits with the purchasing researcher - which is why a legitimate supplier states this plainly and never makes outcome claims.
What a compliant supplier looks like
The signals are consistent: an age gate, a clear research-use disclaimer, third-party testing with a certificate of analysis on every batch, and copy that describes compounds by their mechanism and research context rather than by any human benefit. Kovalabs operates to all of these standards.
