The phrase "research use only" appears on a lot of peptide packaging. Most buyers read it as a legal formality - the kind of boilerplate that exists to give someone somewhere a paper trail. It is not. In the UK, the distinction between a research reagent and an unlicensed medicine rests almost entirely on how a compound is described and marketed, and the phrase does real regulatory work. This page explains what it means, how the framework applies, and what separates a compliant supplier from one that is quietly crossing the line. Research-use-only reagents are supplied for laboratory and in-vitro study. The key word in the guidance is "marketed".
