SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide studied in research into cardiolipin interactions and mitochondrial-function pathways in experimental models.
SS-31 is a synthetic, cell-permeable tetrapeptide with the sequence D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, also known as elamipretide, MTP-131 and Bendavia. It carries the molecular formula C32H49N9O5, a molecular weight of 639.8 g/mol, CAS number 736992-21-5 and PubChem CID 11764719. Kovalabs supplies it as a lyophilised solid for laboratory research only.
It is a defined small-molecule peptide used as a reference compound in non-clinical investigation. Elamipretide is an investigational drug candidate: the material sold here is a research chemical, not that licensed or investigational medicine, and is not an alternative, generic or substitute for it.
SS-31 is not a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and is not scheduled under UK controlled-substance legislation. It is supplied strictly as a research chemical for in-vitro and laboratory use, and it is not for human or veterinary consumption. It is not a licensed medicine and carries no approved human or veterinary application. The purchaser is responsible for complying with all applicable laws governing its handling, storage and use. See our research disclaimer for full terms.
Every batch of SS-31 is released only after independent analytical testing. Purity is assessed by HPLC at >= 99%, and identity is confirmed against the expected mass for C32H49N9O5 (639.8 g/mol). Each order ships with access to a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis documenting these results so the molecule can be verified against its recorded identifiers before use. You can review the supporting documentation on our Certificates of Analysis page.
Not all material sold under the SS-31 name is equivalent. Confirming CAS 736992-21-5, CID 11764719 and the published HPLC purity against a current CoA is the only reliable way to know what a vial contains.
The published literature studies SS-31 (elamipretide) as a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide, including its reported association with cardiolipin and mitochondrial bioenergetics in laboratory, in-vitro and animal-model systems. These are pre-clinical research observations only. None of this establishes any benefit, effect or outcome in humans, and SS-31 is not a licensed medicine. For a fuller, referenced account of the research area, see the SS-31 (elamipretide) research monograph.
SS-31 is manufactured to research grade and supplied as a white to off-white lyophilised powder. It is soluble in bacteriostatic water for the preparation of laboratory stock solutions. Store the lyophilised solid at -20C, kept dry and protected from light; hold reconstituted material at 2-8C. Browse the full cellular research range, or related reference compounds including NAD+, Glutathione and Epithalon. For laboratory research use only; not for human or veterinary use.

No third-party batch reports have been uploaded for this product yet. Reports are issued by independent labs after each manufacturing batch.
